Tendon Repair

Overview

This surgery fixes a tendon that has been cut or torn. Tendons are strong bands of connective tissue. They connect muscle to bone. When a tendon is cut or torn, the two ends may pull away from each other. Some tears don't heal properly without surgery.

Preparation

To begin, you're given medicine to make you feel relaxed and numb. We make an incision to reach the injured tendon.

Repair

Now, we grasp the two ends of the tendon and carefully bring them back together. We may trim the ends so they fit together cleanly. Then, we use fine sutures to reconnect them. These will hold the tendon together while it heals.

End of procedure

When it's done, your skin is closed and bandaged. After a period of healing, physical therapy will help strengthen your hand. Follow your care plan for a safe recovery.
