Kyle Planchard, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in the management of sports-related injuries. His surgical focus is knee and shoulder arthroscopy, a minimally invasive procedure that diagnoses and treats joint problems like arthritis, torn ligaments and cartilage.
He also enjoys contributing to orthopedics as an author of many journal articles. Topics presented by Dr. Planchard at conferences include improvement of meniscus tear classification systems and current research on the relationship between a pitcher’s size and the force applied to their ulnar collateral ligament.
A Baton Rouge native, Dr. Planchard studied biological sciences at LSU before medical school at University of Texas Southwestern School of Medicine in Dallas. He enjoyed his first clinical rotation in orthopedic surgery and appreciated this practical way to help people move freely without pain.
Dr. Planchard completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans, followed by an orthopedic surgery sports medicine fellowship at American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama. His professional memberships include American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) and American Medical Association (AMA).
Fond of family, Dr. Planchard enjoys quality time with his wife and daughters. His favorite hobbies include golfing, reading and watching sports.
